How are the synchronous
courses scheduled?
They will be scheduled multiple times
throughout the day.
How
is the asynchronous Spanish course scheduled?
Your institution has several options.
Since the curriculum instruction and assessment can
be accessed at any time, in any place, and at any
pace, it may be used as a supplement to a scheduled
instructor- led class; it may be scheduled as a class
at a particular time; it may be scheduled for each
individual member of the class at different times
during the day; it may be flexi-scheduled, allowing
the student to access the curriculum, receive the
instruction and challenge the assessment as he or
she can schedule.
How
many contact hours are associated with a course?
The synchronous courses will meet
the minimum Carnegie standard for a year-long course,
with on-line days, i.e. live interaction with the
electronic instructor (e-instructor) and off-line
days during which students will work with web curriculum,
do on-line research and take exams. The asynchronous
Spanish course can be tailored by the institution
to meet the minimum contact hours for the Carnegie
unit; however, assessment measures skills gained and
knowledge acquired and is not time bound, hence asynchronous.
The skills gained and the knowledge acquired would
be roughly equivalent to that expected in a year of
work.

How
do I know if my institution has the correct hardware
and software?
eLI will send you a list of assets needed to receive
the courses that you have chosen. Many institutions
already have the needed assets in place.

Will I need an instructor
or proctor on site?
For the synchronous courses, eLI strongly recommends
that a proctor be in place. The eLI instructor will
serve as the teacher of record. For the asynchronous
Spanish course, students will need to report to an
academic advisor from time to time during the semester
since they will be able to access curriculum, instruction,
and assessment at any time, in any place and at any
pace; however, the institution can configure accountability
for the asynchronous course as it sees fit.

How are academic
records kept for courses offered by eLI to my institution?
eLI will assess all measurable activities of students
in eLI including absences, tardies, and disciplinary
referrals in academic matters, grades and evaluations.
eLI will post such reports as the institution might
normally require of its site-based instructors pursuant
to classroom performance, i.e. progress reports.

What is the
process of payment?
Payment in full for each course ordered
is due no later that four weeks prior to the start
of classes. Payments may be made through purchase
order, check, money order or credit card.

When must my
institution order eLI courses?
Synchronous courses for the
fall of 2000 must be ordered no later than 15 June
2000 and paid for no later than 15 July 2000 since
most schools begin in mid August. Schools may special
order synchronous courses to begin at any time during
the year; however, eLI must be given a two month notice
so that quality of service can be maintained. The
asynchronous course can be ordered at any time after
15 June 2000. Initial activation will be no earlier
than 15 August 2000; thereafter, however, eLI can
deliver the asynchronous course upon payment.
